There is no other place like it anywhere in the world. And certainly no other place like it if you’re seeking a true British Virgin Islands vacation. A casually elegant British Virgin Island resort and spa hidden away on an 1,800-acre oasis of tranquility.
A few thousand years after giant volcanic eruptions formed the Virgin Islands, Peter Island was home to the rich, the famous and the infamous, from Christopher Columbus and Sir Francis Drake to the pirate Blackbeard and various Dutch, German and Spanish planters and privateers.
But it wasn’t until the late 1960s, when Norway’s Torlof Smedvig became smitten with the island, that it actually began to gain a reputation as a high-quality tourist resort. With the help of his wife and a team of workers, Torlof added 20 A-frames, a harbour, a marina, a clubhouse, a pool, a lobby bar, a dining room and, finally, guests to the majestic island, thus beginning the modern history of Peter Island Resort & Spa.
In 1978, an avid sailor purchased Peter Island after sailing past it several years before. He then established the world-class resort that exists today and lived on the island to ensure that every aspect of the resort was perfect and that the island’s beauty and serenity were preserved. His commitment lives on to this day, and his children still oversee every aspect of Peter Island Resort & Spa, preserving both their father’s legacy and the resort’s most important amenity: the pristine natural beauty of the island itself.
The Beach Front Junior Suites are only a few glorious steps off the white sands of Deadman’s Beach, and Ocean View Rooms put you within a few seconds’ walk of the resort’s fabulous pool. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
And if you’re looking for island living at its finest, “Heavenly Hideaways” perfectly describes the three magnificent private villas. Each one with spectacular views of the surrounding islands, each one with private pools, each and every one beautifully furnished and perfectly appointed.

Beach Front Junior Suites
Peter Island’s Beach Front Junior Suites peek through coconut palms at the far end of Deadman’s Beach, one of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean.
Only a five-minute walk from the main pool and Peter Island Marina, each suite is surrounded by tropical gardens with direct beach access and has a private balcony or patio, two-person Jacuzzi tubs, two-person showers, king size beds with plush bedding amenities, and a large sitting area, all with ocean views.

A delicious slice of heaven. In paradise. As Peter Island’s signature restaurant, Tradewinds features the Caribbean’s most renowned chefs serving delicious bistro and Asian-Caribbean cuisine. Warm breezes whisper as the delicate chimes of German china, French silverware and Italian crystal fill the air.
Be sure to make a special visit on Saturday nights for our legendary Tradewinds Gala Buffet, featuring Caribbean dining twists on everything from salads, vegetables and fruits to fresh seafood and meats featured at our live carving stations.
But beware: get too full and you’ll miss out on an amazing variety of homemade desserts, including Peter Island’s famous Bananas Foster.
Tradewinds also serves a breakfast buffet with live omelette station and an à la carte menu option. If you’d prefer your meal delivered, room service is available from any of the restaurant menus during restaurant hours.
On Peter Island, they know extraordinary food and premier wine go together like sun and sand. This is why they have added a wine room to Tradewinds, complete with a mahogany banquet table, floor-to-ceiling wine cases and precise climate control.
The variety and quality of wine offered in the Tradewinds Wine Room are reflected in more than 300 selections, including the Caribbean’s most exclusive collection of champagne, wine, cognac, Armagnac, grappa and eau de vie.
Deadman’s Beach Bar & Grill
The only reason you’ll want to leave the sun. Surrounded by sea grapes and palms, Deadman’s Beach Bar & Grill serves a tempting fusion of Caribbean and continental flavours for lunch every day and dinner on alternating nights.
Guests can enjoy delicious wood-fired pizzas, colourful buffets, signature sandwiches and Peter Island’s “finger-lickin’ good” ribs, or soak up the sun on the beachside deck with a delicious blended drink.
Deadman’s Beach Bar & Grill also offers beach delivery service, which means guests can order right from the sand with just a raise of a flag. And the vibe is anything but “dead” at Deadman’s. A steel drum band sets the mood on select Sunday afternoons and thrills guests with a repeat performance to spice up Wednesday nights at the Caribbean Buffet.
