Flanked by water on both sides, Curtain Bluff sits on a rocky promontory (bluff) that juts into the sea between two beautiful beaches on Antigua’s south coast. One is calm, ideal for swimming and watersports; the other beach is washed by ocean surf.
This is a property that truly stands out on its own which is endorsed by the list of awards and accolades that it has won down through the years. Most hotels do certain things very well, surprisingly few seem to do everything very well. Curtain Bluff is one of those rare gems that seems to get it right all the time.
Apart from its 72 luxurious rooms, and it’s incredible food reputation the property includes an exceptional amount of services in its all-inclusive programme. With the exception of a few above-and-beyond luxuries such as Cuban cigars, vintage wines and spa treatments, everything is included in the room rate, making it one of the best value all-inclusives in the Caribbean.
Throughout your stay there are a number of fascinating tours and classes you can take both within and outside the resort. One of our favourites is the Caribbean cooking class which is always paired with one of the fine wines from the 25,000 bottle cellar (yes you read this right).
Transfer time from the International Airport to the hotel is approximately 30 minutes.
The 72 spacious suites and guest rooms run along the palm-shaded, white-sand Surf Beach and rise up the rocky promontory that gives the resort its name. All the rooms offer breathtaking, jaw dropping views which are complimented by large, floor-to-ceiling windows and verandahs or ground-floor terraces look out over the beach and across the sea to a lush-green headland. At night, the scene is a canopy of stars and the only sound is the rhythm of the waves.
Inside, the rooms are decorated in a “simply-elegant” tropical style, complete with all the modern luxuries from air-conditioning and over-sized soaking tubs to wood-panelled ceilings, refrigerators and high-speed Internet access. In keeping with the timeless ambiance of the resort, there are no TVs in the rooms (there are two dedicated television rooms elsewhere on the property). Sleeping arrangements are designed for a couple sharing a king-sized bed.
Curtain Bluff’s most affordable accommodations, the 18 Deluxe Rooms fill a two-story Caribbean-style villa right on Surf Beach. 9 of these are on the beach level, with spacious terraces that lead straight out on to the sand with the remaining looking out over the sand and sea to the distant headland.
The 40 Junior Suites are spread through three-story villas right on the resort’s Surf Beach, just a stone’s throw from the water. Bedroom section is a step down to a sunken living room which is accented in rich blues and greens mirroring the colours outside.
Set into the rocky edge of the bluff, the five Bluff Rooms have the same décor, bedroom and bathroom configuration as the One-bedroom Bluff Suite, however with no large living room. Their spacious terraces look out over both the sea and the resort’s Surf Beach.
One Bedroom Bluff Suite
Overlooking our Surf Beach but a few steps higher up the bluff, the 5 one and two bedroom Bluff Suites are more private and secluded. The large living room has an inviting inside/outside feel thanks to an “open” wall that lets in the cool breeze and the sound of the waves. Upstairs there is a breakfast nook and a 16-foot-wide dining terrace that make the most of the panoramic views.
The Terrace Room is the most popular choice for newly-weds celebrating an Antigua honeymoon thanks to its private location at the very top of the bluff and breathtaking views over the beach, Morris Bay and the Caribbean Sea. A sense of calm and timeless sophistication set off its oversized 567-square-foot terrace with its elevated Jacuzzi. The perfect location for private relaxation and dining.
Tucked into the hill side, this twin terraced spacious suite’s big selling point is its infinity soaking pool with unobstructed views of Grace Bay beach.
Grace & Morris Bay Suites
The most luxurious of Curtain Bluff’s accommodations, these 2 generously scaled suites occupy the third floor of a Caribbean-style villa. Both suites are luxuriously furnished with blue-marble bathrooms, colonial furniture, richly coloured fabrics and a sweeping verandah accompanied by sun-chairs and a Jacuzzi.
The quality of the food at Curtain Bluff has long been one of its standout features and one of the many reasons the hotel has such a high rate of returning guests.
The stunning open sided restaurant serves breakfasts and candle-lit dinners.
The Sea Grape
Barefoot casual lunches and romantic dinners are enjoyed one step from the sand and a few feet from the water’s edge.
Sugar Mill Terrace
Afternoon tea is served here overlooking the gardens.
