Bellevue Plantation ★★★★★

Bellevue Plantation House Barbados

Spread over 10,000 square feet, the House was sited to command the best views of the Belle Plantation, hence the name.   Bellevue was known as Anton Hall in the late 18th century and was built between 1735 and 1750, making it one of the first plantations on the island. The original house was constructed in classic Georgian architectural style.

The entrance hall and formal living area on the ground floor features polished wooden floors and several interesting local antique pieces. On the ground floor of the House there are two large dining tables that lend themselves to elegant entertaining. The formal dining room opens onto an adjoining terrace and patio overlooking the large swimming pool and deck, ideal for dining al fresco and pool parties.  Three acres of private gardens contain a pond and numerous indigenous tropical trees and flowers for the enjoyment of guests.

The House is staffed with a full-time with a housekeeper, gardener and laundress, and a trained chef is available daily on an optional basis for an additional charge.  Extra staffing and specialist services including child minders, qualified beauticians and massage therapists, butler service, private car with driver/chauffeur etc. are also available upon request.

Infused with history, charm and authenticity, Bellevue Barbados offers guests more than just a villa holiday in the Caribbean – it is all-encompassing  experience, especially for guests celebrating an important occasion such as wedding, special birthday or anniversary.

As you enter the grounds, you are immediately struck by the grandeur and grace of years gone by. A sweeping dual stairway guides you to the large, wraparound verandah on the second level, from where you can take advantage of the spectacular views and watch magnificent sunsets over the Caribbean sea while sipping cocktails.

The air-conditioned master suite and three additional guest rooms – all with ensuite bathrooms – are also on this level and three open onto their own private balconies. On the ground level are two further guest suites plus a large family room with wi-fi, featuring a mosaic design of the island of Barbados, and a study. The House itself sleeps up to 12 guests with a separate self-catering cottage in the grounds providing two more guest rooms for a total accommodation capacity of 18 people.

The original house was the square Georgian block so prevalent throughout the British Colonial islands. However, the term ‘Caribbean Georgian’ was coined to describe the many delightful, tropical touches that were added to this style and which are so well exemplified in Bellevue Plantation
